Gas Cooker Installation in Stoke-on-Trent
New cooker to connect, or an old one to disconnect safely? We connect and disconnect gas cookers, check the hose and stability, and leak-test the connection before we leave.
What installation involves
Connecting a gas cooker is not just attaching a hose. The connection has to be gas-tight, the appliance has to be stable, and the hose has to be the right type and length for the position.
We:
- Isolate the existing supply and disconnect the old appliance safely
- Check the new cooker is suitable for the gas supply and the space
- Fit or check the stability bracket or chain
- Fit the correct hose where needed
- Connect, leak-test and commission the appliance
- Check clearances and ventilation where relevant
Replacing an existing cooker
Replacing a cooker is usually straightforward, but two things catch people out: the hose and the stability device. A cooker that is not restrained can tip when a pan is pulled forward, which is why the bracket or chain matters as much as the connection.
If the old hose is the wrong length or has been in place for years, it is replaced rather than reused. Hoses are inexpensive; a leak is not.
Disconnection and making safe
If you are removing a cooker and not replacing it, the supply needs to be capped or isolated properly — not left open with the valve relied on. We can disconnect and make the supply safe, and explain what has been done.
If something is not right
If the clearances are wrong, the ventilation is inadequate, or the appliance is not suitable for the location, we will explain the problem rather than connect something that cannot be used safely. That is not us being difficult — an appliance that cannot be used safely should not be connected.
If you smell gas
Do not wait for an appointment. Get everyone out of the property, avoid switches and flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from outside. See what to do if you smell gas for the full sequence.
Booking
Call, WhatsApp with the make and model, or use the quote form with your postcode. Quotes are free and we supply the materials. If you are also replacing a hob, see gas hob installation.
Frequently asked questions
Do you disconnect my old cooker?
Yes. Disconnection is part of the job, and we cap or isolate the supply safely. If the connection cannot be left safe, we will explain why.
Can you fit a cooker I bought myself?
Usually, yes, provided it is suitable for the gas supply and the space. Tell us the make and model before booking so we can check it.
Do I need a new hose?
Often. Hoses have a limited life and must be the correct type and length. We check the existing hose and replace it where needed rather than reusing one that is past its best.
Can you convert a cooker from natural gas to LPG?
Only where the manufacturer supplies an approved conversion kit and the appliance is suitable. If a conversion is not supported, we will say so rather than improvise.
What checks do you carry out?
The connection is leak-tested, the stability bracket or chain is checked or fitted, and the appliance is commissioned. Ventilation and clearances are checked where relevant.
