Power Flushing in Stoke-on-Trent
Sludge in the pipework starves radiators and strains boilers. SureFlow power-flushes heating systems where contamination is genuinely the problem, and says so when it is not.
When flushing is, and is not, the answer
Power flushing circulates cleansing chemicals at controlled flow to mobilise and capture sludge and debris. It is the right fix for contamination symptoms. It is not a cure-all: failed components, design faults and air ingress need their own repairs, and very old fragile pipework is assessed for risk before flushing is agreed.
Our process
- Diagnosis — symptoms, water samples and component checks.
- Flush — radiators treated individually, system cleansed, debris captured and disposed of.
- Protect — refill, inhibitor dose, filter recommendation, balance and test.
Pricing is agreed beforehand based on system size and condition.
Equipment and suitability
Power flushing uses a dedicated flushing pump connected to the system to circulate cleansing chemicals at controlled flow, with radiators treated individually so debris is mobilised and captured rather than left in the pipework.
It is not suitable for every system. Very old or fragile pipework, some microbore installations and systems with existing leaks need assessing first — flushing a leaking system can make the problem worse. We check before recommending it.
What is included
Typically the flush covers the cleansing itself, refilling with clean water, adding inhibitor and balancing the system. A magnetic filter is usually recommended afterwards, where one is not already fitted, to capture future debris. If a filter is being added, it is listed separately in the quote.
What it will not fix
Flushing treats contamination. It will not repair a failed pump, valve, control or heat exchanger, and it will not fix a radiator that is cold at the top — that is air, not sludge. Diagnosis comes first so you are not paying for work that does not address the fault.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my system needs power flushing?
Classic signs are radiators cold at the bottom after bleeding, black water when bled, a noisy boiler (kettling), slow warm-up, and repeated pump failures. Diagnosis confirms it before any flushing is quoted.
How long does power flushing take?
Most homes take a day. Larger or badly sludged systems can take longer. Time depends on radiator count and contamination level, and is confirmed before work starts.
Will power flushing fix my boiler?
It fixes circulation problems caused by sludge. It cannot repair failed pumps, valves, controls or scaled heat exchangers, which is why diagnosis comes first.
What happens after flushing?
The system is refilled with clean water and inhibitor, and a magnetic filter is recommended where one is not already fitted, to keep it clean. New boiler installations are flushed or cleansed as part of the job.
