Water appearing beneath a boiler should be assessed promptly. It may come from the appliance or nearby connections, and the visible drip location does not necessarily show the source.
Keep clear of electrical hazards
Do not touch wet switches, plugs or electrical equipment. Do not remove the boiler casing to look for a leak. If you cannot safely reach normal controls, keep clear and seek assistance. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the advice of the professional handling the incident.
Record useful details
If safe, photograph the visible water from outside the appliance. Note whether it appears continuously, only during heating or after hot water use. Mention any pressure change, fault display or recent servicing. These details help prepare an assessment without requiring you to identify internal parts.
Avoid temporary internal repairs
Do not tighten internal connections, apply sealant inside the appliance or block a pipe to stop dripping. Water discharge may be linked to a safety function. The underlying cause needs to be established before the correct repair can be chosen.
After the fault is found
Ask whether the repair addresses the source and whether surrounding damage needs separate attention. A boiler repair does not automatically include drying ceilings, flooring or cupboards. Keep photographs and reports where an insurer or landlord needs a record of the incident.
